For My Essay I Compare And Contrast Elie Wiesel From Another Survivor From The Holocaust Named Leon Merrick.
In My Opinion I Believe Both of The Survivors Should Not Have Faced or Witnessed or Have Gone through the Horrible Things That Happened Then, Nor Should has anyone.
Leon Merrick Was Born In Poland 1926. In 1940 He And His Family Were Forced Into The Lodz Ghetto. He Was Forced Into Many Labor Camps. Often Being Switched From Camp To Camp. Eventually Being Forced Into Buchenwald Concentration Camp, Soon After He Was Forced Into A Death March During Which He Was Liberated.
Elie Wiesel Faced Many Of The Same Horrible Conflicts. But There Was One Specific Thing That I Think That If It Wasn’t There That Elie Wiesel Wouldn’t Have Had The Same Outcome. His Father. In My Opinion I Think Elie Wiesel’s Father Helped Him Through his Time of the Holocaust Even Though in the Book He Had Some Thought of That His Dad Held Him Back. I Believe Elie Wiesel Needed His Dad To Have Survived Because He Knew His Dad Needed Him, And That He Knew If He Would’ve Given Up That His Dad Would Never Have A Chance Of Making It. Because Of This, I Also Believe That Leon Merrick Was In A Way A Stronger Person. Not Saying Elie Wiesel Is Weak In Anyway. From What The Book “Night” Seems To Show It Just Shows That Elie Pushed Himself As Hard As He Did For His Father.
One Similarity That Stood Out To Me Between These Two People Is That They Were Both At One Point At The Buchenwald Concentration Camp. I Think It Would’ve Been Interesting If They Somehow Knew Each Other From That Or Recognize One Another. Also I Wonder How a Conversation between the Two Would Go and How Interesting It May Turn Out To be Considering They Both Have Been Through Close To The Same Events Or Situations. Also, I’m Curious To What Would’ve Happen If Elie’s Father Had Not Been There.
Both Of These People Have Lived Something Most People Will never Experience Or Never Had To, No One should Experience These Events Except For Those Who Truly Deserve It which I Think Is A Very Hard Thing To Imagine Someone Doing Something As Bad As Something To Deserve That. But Both Of These People Should Be Remembered As Heroes Or As Inspiration To Many Other People Today. I Think In A Way These Men Could Also Inspire You To Believe That No Matter How Bad Things Are That As Long As You’re Strong Enough To Believe You Can Do It And Have Faith In Yourself, That You Can Get Through Anything No Matter How Bad They Are.
